The Making of Essential Oils

Essential oils are concentrated liquids that are extracted from plants. They are used for a variety of purposes, including aromatherapy, skin care, and cooking. Making essential oils at home is a great way to save money and get fresh, high-quality oils.

There are many different methods for making essential oils at home. Some of the most common methods include:

  • Steam distillation: This is the most common method for making essential oils. It involves heating plant material in steam, which causes the essential oils to vaporize. The vapors are then condensed, and the essential oil is collected.
  • Hydrodistillation: This method is similar to steam distillation, but water is added to the plant material before it is heated. This method is often used to make essential oils from delicate plants that can be damaged by heat.
  • Cold pressing: This method is used to make essential oils from citrus fruits. The fruits are crushed, and the essential oil is extracted from the juice.
  • Enfleurage: This method is a slow and delicate process that is used to make essential oils from flowers. The flowers are placed in a shallow dish with a fat, such as olive oil or shea butter. The flowers are allowed to infuse the fat with their essential oils over a period of several weeks.

Making essential oils is a complex process and is a great way to get fresh, high-quality oils. There are many different methods for making essential oils, Essirium has perfected this method with its in-house laboratory.
